Addis Ababa: January 9, 2014 (FBC) The Ethiopian Airports Enterprise said it has received a parcel of land to build an airport on, in Hawasa and started the design activity.
Culture and Tourism Bureau Head of the region Zerihun Zewude said the lack alternative means of transportation hasn’t been allowing the town gets an income equivalent to its attractiveness.
The only means of transportation has been vehicles, which doesn’t fulfill interest of financially capable foreign tourists.
It is taking this into consideration that the enterprise is working on the design of the new airport to be constructed in Hawasa town.
1 million Birr has been allocated for the design work. The construction cost and time will be made public after the completion of the design work, according to Communication Affairs Office with the enterprise Wendim Teklu.
Up on completion, the airport is hoped will pave way for attaining goal of the municipality which is doubling the tourist flow.
Over 631,000 domestic and foreign tourists visited the capital of the SNNP regional state Hawassa in 2012/ 13 and the town has obtained 130 million Birr from the sector.
